Alfalfa hay is a dark green, sweet-smelling, leafy hay that is recommended as a staple hay for young, growing buns. When your rabbit is about 7 months of age, it is time to move on to oat, timothy, or orchard grass hay. Alfalfa is not recommended for adult rabbits due to its naturally high protein and calcium content.
